Book review by: Mr Spencer
Title: Only You Can Save Mankind
Author: Terry Pratchett
What’s the book about?
Johnny Maxwell is ordinary. He’s twelve. He likes shooting aliens in computer games. But then the aliens stop shooting back. Then they surrender. The game is real and Johnny enters it in his dreams. Now it’s the aliens that need saving and only Johnny can save them.
Who would this book be suitable for?
Children who like science fiction and children who like stories about young people. The story looks at some serious issues which might be challenging for younger children.
Why would you recommend this book?
When I was twelve, Terry Pratchett was my favourite author. I would recommend this book because Johnny is a very realistic twelve-year-old and pupils will identify with the experiences he and his friends go through at school and at home.
